From the Latin apricus, meaning exposed to the sun. Written down in 1623, and barely used since.
We took a word that almost disappeared, because it names the exact thing we are building for: Vancouver's grey months, the people working through them on nights and weekends, and a room that makes it easier to keep going. Every material, corner and light setting was chosen with one question: does this make burnout harder to slip into?

Why we built Apricity.
Vancouver has no shortage of desks to rent. What it does not have is a room where somebody notices when you stop showing up.
The four of us have all built something around a job, a client list, or both, and we have all had the same week: the one where the work is fine, but you are the only person who knows it exists. Apricity is the room we wanted then. Warm, disciplined, and full of people building at the same hour you are.

Mentorship builds in a loop
Since I was 16, I had a dream of building a mentorship space, but I didn't know what that entailed yet. I spent six years building Nook from a vacant karaoke bar. Two renovations, 250+ events, and a room where founders cared about each other. Nook was 60% of Apricity: a space where mentorship runs in a loop instead of a straight line. You get help, you pass it on, and the room gets smarter every time. Apricity is that space, built for part-time founders from the start, with co-founders who are equally passionate about this vision.

Having spent a few years being self-employed, I have first-hand experience with the challenges of building alone: not having anyone to share your wins and challenges with. That's why I joined Apricity's founding team: I want to create a platform where local Canadian founders can get the support and community they need to take their businesses far.

As an AI automation consultant, I've seen how much has changed in the way businesses operate. The old mindset of "more hours in, more work out" feels severely outdated. While people can do more with less now, they shouldn't have to squeeze in extra tasks just because they can. That's how you tank productivity. I joined Apricity to help change how work "works" and build a space where our members can do their best thinking on their own terms, alongside other people looking for the same thing.

Three questions we get asked.
What is our goal?
To get part-time entrepreneurs from −1 to +1: from the idea you keep describing to the thing that exists. We measure that in proof: work made public, on a schedule, in front of people who will tell you the truth. An ongoing maintenance protocol along with optional launch cycles tailored to you.
How do we differ from a coffee shop?
A coffee shop rents you a table and a wifi password. Nobody there knows what you are working on, and nobody notices if you stop. Apricity is built the other way around: bi-weekly check-ins where you say what you are shipping, build days where you work beside people doing the same, and launch nights where you show it. The room is made for long hours, with circadian lighting, quiet corners, and 24/7 access, but the reason to come in is the people who will ask how it went.
How is Apricity different from other spaces and incubators?
Most programs are shaped around a finish line (a cohort, a demo day, a graduation) and around founders who can clear their calendar for it. Apricity is shaped around the person doing this at night and on weekends, and it does not end if you need more time between launches. We want to help you build a sustainable business alongside a sustainable life.
